CATNIP
Catnip is highly attractive to cats. It is a perennial herb belonging
to the mint family Labiatae. When cats are exposed to catnip they
can react in many different ways such as rolling around on the floor,
drooling, rubbing with the chin and cheek areas, bunny kicking,
sniffing and licking and becoming very playful and active. The effects
of catnip vary from cat to cat. Catnip is not harmful to your cat
and they cannot overdose on it, when they have had enough they will
move away from it. To keep catnip fresh it should be stored in an
airtight container.
Catnip encourages your cat to play, exercise and generally makes
them feel good. There are numerous catnip toys now available with
various makes of catnip in them. By introducing catnip and catnip
toys to your cat they will be encouraged to play and therefore exercise.
For overweight or lazy cats catnip can be extremely helpful in getting
your cat up and moving, chasing around and playing. Catnip toys
will provide a good workout for your cat, they will have great fun
and keep fit at the same time.
Catnip is also a useful training aid. By putting catnip on a cat
scratching post you will attract your cat to the post and be encouraging
your cat to scratch the post and not your furniture and carpets.
Catnip is now available in a number of forms and varieties including
sprays and even bubbles. Not all cats react to catnip but for those
that do it not only provides great excitement for your cats but
a lot of entertainment for us watching their antics.
